The cost-estimating phase is an important and highly individual part of the custom building process. At Harbor Design & Construction, we provide a premium service, and we’re proud of the job we do. We offer a rock-solid guarantee of quality, and we’re not apologetic about the fact that you might spend more with us than with some home builders, especially when you opt for completely new construction. We don’t build cookie-cutter cracker boxes, and our estimates reflect that reality.

Think of it this way: would you rather spend ten bucks a pop for a pair of cheap shoes you’ll have to replace twice a year, or $250 for a handmade pair of Italian leather loafers that just might outlast you? Obviously, the latter’s the better bargain in the long run, and more than that: it’s an investment in quality. The same is true when you choose us to build the Lake Michigan home of your dreams.

Here’s how we work it: once we’ve completed our preliminary discussions and established a baseline design for your special home, we’ll begin the painstaking process of estimating the cost to build it. Our three decades of experience, in combination with the eye we keep fixed on materials costs, labor costs, and all the other expenses that go into building a superior home, will allow us to quickly put together a fixed bid that we’ll then offer for your approval.

Once we’ve worked out the details, we can start acquiring any necessary permits, and begin the actual building process soon after.
